Mike Diamond
P.O. Box 6351
Rock Island, IL 61204
mdia1@aol.com
Mike has been collecting, researching,
and writing about error coins since 1997. Born and raised in Queens, New York,
he now lives a quieter existence near the Mississippi River with his wife,
daughter, and brainless but loveable dog.
Mike received his Ph.D. in biological anthropology from the University of
Chicago in 1988. His research on primate vascular development and evolution has
appeared in such journals as the Journal of Morphology, the Journal of Anatomy,
the Anatomical Record, and the American Journal of Physical Anthropology. He has
also written a number of popular articles on evolutionary biology. Mike
currently teaches anthropology at a local community college. Before that he
worked in medical schools and allied schools of health teaching human gross
anatomy, comparative anatomy, and embryology. Some of Mike's other interests
include paleontology, fossil hunting, book collecting, cryptozoology, and
fish-keeping. Mike's affinity for anything bizarre and mysterious made error
coins a natural choice within numismatics. Mike always tries to apply the
scientific method to the forensic numismatic analyses that have become his stock
in trade.

Robert ("BJ") Neff

wavysteps2003@aol.com
I was born in New York in the year 1943 and was drawn into the hobby of philately, by my parents who were both collectors, at the young age of 7. Even at this age, I began specializing in United States stamps, especially those with errors and odd postage marks and continued to collect until I went into the service.
In 1962, with the Vietnamese War heating up, I decided to enlist in the United States Navy and spent the next 21 years in the Submarine Service, retiring in 1982 from my last command in Hawaii. After spending another 13 years in the Aloha state, my wife Jeanie and I moved to Florida where we now reside.
Once again the collecting bug bit me, however, this time the hobby of choice was numismatics. My interest in variety coins increased dramatically with my discovery of a 2004 Lincoln cent, with an obverse/reverse doubled die, which had been given to Jeanie as change in our local Wal-mart store.
Jeanie has also shown an interest in coin collecting and we are both active members of the Central Florida Coin Club, Florida United Numismatics and of course CONECA.

My bio would go something like this.
I was born on June 13, 1955 in Chicago to Sue and John
Rizdy. I have one brother John Jr. who is 4 years older. I
went 12 years to Catholic school and began working in 1971 part
time at first then full time after graduating St. Laurance High
School in 1973. I married in 1986 to Debra who inspired me to
pursue this hobby to its fullest. I was a auto body repair man
for 25 years. And at the age of 46 with the encouragement of my
wife I changed careers and went into the coin business. I
began coin collecting in 1963. With the Kennedy half somewhat
similar to the new collectors today with the state quarters.
There wasn't any other changes in the coinage for me before
that. I was too young for the change of the Lincoln cent to
inspire me.
With the help of my father, I became a
coin collector. Even though he was a man with little time (he
worked two jobs most of his life) he always made time for coins.
When he was able he brought home bags of change we would go
through them always pulling out the wheat cents plus any needed
dates. We looked at all denominations. He put the nicest
coins in his folder. My brother getting second choice and I as
the youngest getting the last. One evening after coming in from
the garage, he was told about the 1944D/S [Lincoln cent] and
asked me to look for it. I found 3 coins I thought were the Over
Mintmark. He showed them to the man who told him about the
variety. He said that they were not the Over Mintmark, but they
were something he just didn't know what they were.
I was told to keep them and found out
much later that they were1944-D Repunched Mint RPM#1 and RPM#2
and one of them was the 1944-D/S OMM#2.
Since these finds I hooked up with Daru
Coin shop in Chicago. Don Urchel was the owner at the time I
told him I was looking for varieties. He allowed me to go
through the stock of any new coins that came in only charging me
for the coin not the variety. I built my collection quickly and
with many extras. Then with the help of Numismatic News I began
trading through the mail. Now I am part owner at LaGrange Coin
and having the time of my life doing what I like. |
